Confirmation

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome! We are absolutely thrilled to walk alongside you and your child as they prepare to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. This is a sacred and beautiful milestone, and our entire parish staff, volunteers, and faith community are praying for your family during this season of preparation.

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to you. At your child’s Baptism, you took on the sacred role of being their very first teachers in the ways of faith. Thank you for fulfilling that promise, for raising your children in the Catholic faith, and for bringing them to this moment of deeper commitment to Christ. We are honored to partner with you.

When your child’s Confirmation preparation comes to an end, your role as parents becomes even more important. Confirmation is not a graduation from the faith but a strengthening of your child’s life in Christ and a deeper call to discipleship. The most powerful lesson your child will receive after Confirmation will not come from a classroom, a textbook, or a parish program, but from your example.

We encourage you to continue living your Catholic faith in a visible and convincing way, demonstrating that faith is not simply something practiced on Sundays but the very foundation of daily life. Let your children see that faith shapes how you speak, how you treat others, how you spend your time, how you face difficulties, and how you make decisions, even in the smallest matters.

Show them that the Gospel provides the lens through which you understand reality, that prayer is a genuine source of strength, and that your relationship with Jesus Christ is central to your identity and purpose. By faithfully participating in the Mass, praying as a family, practicing charity, and striving to live according to Christian values each day, you will help your child grow into a mature disciple whose faith remains alive, meaningful, and active long after the Confirmation celebration has passed.

Registration

Registration for the Fall 2026 Confirmation Preparation Program will open on Labour Day and close on Friday, October 16th, 2026.

Classes

All sessions will be held on Saturdays from 10:00am to 11:00am at St. Angela Merici Parish, 980 Louis Avenue.

The program begins on October 17th, 2026, and concludes with the celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation on November 22nd, 2026.

Note: A single, unified ceremony will be held on the Solemnity of Christ the King.

Cost

$75.00 registration fee payable by e-transfer to assumption@cogeco.net. Please note that it is for Confirmation classes in the memo line.

Preparation Session Schedule & Expectations

Session breakdown:

• 10 minutes Icebreaker and Prayer
• 35 minutes Chosen video + discussion/activity/worksheet
• 10 minutes of Activity or reflection
• 5 minutes Closing Prayer

Because this journey is a communal experience of growth, full attendance and active participation are expected at all scheduled sessions. Please mark these dates and themes on your family calendar:

• October 17th: “Called to be More”
• October 24th: “The Problem of Sin” (Includes: Service Piece TBD)
• October 31st: “Jesus the Way, the Truth, and the Life”
• November 7th: “The Holy Spirit and the Church” (Includes: Service TBD)
• November 14th: “Sacraments of Initiation” (Includes: Reconciliation Retreat)
• November 21st: “Call to Mission” & Final Rehearsal (Held at Rosary Hall, Assumption Parish)
• November 22nd: The Sacrament of Confirmation Ceremony (11:00am Mass, Assumption Parish)

Confirmation Sponsor Requirements

A sponsor is a spiritual mentor who walks with the candidate through preparation and continues to support their Catholic faith throughout their life. In accordance with Canon Law, a Confirmation sponsor must meet the following criteria:

• Faith: Must be a practicing Catholic who has received Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation.
• Age: Must be at least 16 years old.
• Role: Cannot be the biological or adoptive parent of the candidate.
• Witness: Lives a life in harmony with the Catholic faith and is ready to support the candidate on their spiritual journey.

Sunday Mass: Our Gathering & Participation

As part of the Confirmation journey, every Sunday presents a beautiful opportunity for our candidates and parents to gather, pray, and fully participate together at one particular Mass throughout our Family of Parishes.

To help our candidates experience the vibrant life of the Church, families will be invited and expected to actively participate in the liturgy. Candidates and parents will rotate through the following roles at various Church locations and Mass times:

• Ushering: Welcoming parishioners and assisting at the church doors.
• Collection: Assisting with the presentation and gathering of the Sunday tithes.
• Gift Procession: Carrying the bread and wine to the altar during the Offertory.

A detailed schedule rotating these ministry roles among different candidates across our various parish sites will be provided.
